What Is News and Where Do We Get It?

People get their news in all sorts of ways and my group was no different. Although many of us use TV as our main source of information, I was surprised that everyone seemed to mention a different show or station. Katie H. said she mostly watches WMUR because her roommate puts it on, while Ken said that he enjoys The Daily Show because it’s entertaining. Sam also surprised me by saying that he usually just watches ESPN and enjoys news about sports. This taught me that news doesn’t always refer to one thing.

On the other hand, Emily said Pulse was one of her favorites apps, but that she also has one for The New York Times and The Boston Globe. As for myself, I get most of my news from websites such as The Huffington Post or MSN. I also follow major news sources on Twitter and follow their links to stories and videos.

As we began to define what news is, my group came up with two definitions. It is current events and it is a collection of things that people want to know. Simplifying that, news can be defined as current events that people are interested in.
